Pricing Spider Johnson Fine Art Marquetry

Simple. The more intricate and complex the finished art is, the more expensive. A small artwork may have 500 different (and small) pieces of wood veneer and be more expensive than one twice its size which has only 50 pieces.

Compare the Boston University mural with Journey From Cuzco; with the former having over 5,000 pieces, it was considerably more difficult and took more time than the latter, which had only 300 pieces, yet was significantly larger in size.

Scale certainly affects price, because when the artwork gets to a certain size, it becomes more difficult to manipulate and hence, the price can increase accordingly. Waltz Across Texas, large and sprawling, is such an example.
